Another Season in the books!

Wednesday, June 20th, 2007

Wow, what a season!

From deadly storms to bone crippling ice, Season 3 of Deadliest Catch was (in my opinion) the best and most engaging season yet. Broken Engines & Propellers, Daring Rescues, and new greenhorns tested the seasoned crews.

Will there be a Season 4? I sure hope so. I can’t imagine spending Tuesday nights watching anything else.

Let us know your final thoughts and hopes for next season.

Season 3 Premier: Episode 1

Wednesday, April 4th, 2007

Wow, what a first episode to Season 3.

Here are some recaps and information from the first episode:

  • In the past decades, over 90 men have lost their lives in the bering sea. This season, the numbers will climb
  • As the crews are in dutch harbor, they get a grim reminder as they watch the Cougar Ace get towed into port from recently capsizing.
  • Every year, at least 1 fisherman will not return home from this deadly job
  • The Injury rate is about 100% for fisherman, for example, showing Edgar Hansen bleeding from a hatchet wound to his hand.
  • There is 62 Million Dollar fortune up for grabs this season.
  • The boat field has dropped from 258 to 81 boats, so jobs are scarce. They are some fresh faces on all the boats this season.
  • One of the new boats, the Farwest Leader, welcomes the captains wife who will be going on her first fishing excursion.
  • In 15 years, 114 fisherman have been rescued by the US Coast Guard.
  • The groceries for the season cost an Arm and a Leg, with an example from the Time Bandit’s grocery price of $5,488+.
  • Before the start of the Season, the Captains bet on the winner at $100 each.
  • On Opening Day, they are all informed of Hurricane force winds and rain which will make it the Roughest Season Yet.
  • The Cornelia Marie was the first to leave and first to drop pots this season.
  • The crab count is currently 0 for all boats.
  • Shortly after out at sea, the crews are reminded of the dangers when they hear a mayday call from the Ocean Challenger.
  • 1 crew member is rescued and the rest of the mission will be carried out next episode.

Gripping and exciting, this will be a great season.

SEASON 3: QUOTE OF THE WEEK

Deadliest Catch gets 4 out 5 Stars

Thursday, February 15th, 2007

As the new season of Deadliest Catch nears, reviews of last season bring great anticipation for the “Roughest Season Yet”.

A Review of last Season’s Series received a 4 out of 5 Stars from CommonSense Media, a Television Review company that reviews all the major tv series.

From the Review by Lucy Maher:

In the Discovery Channel’s reality show/documentary DEADLIEST CATCH, viewers hop aboard several fishing boats as seasoned seamen struggle to make a living hauling fish during King crab season off the coast of Alaska.

The captains and crew of five fishing boats are the series’ stars. Viewers see — in excruciating detail — the risks and rewards involved in crab fishing. For just a few months’ work, a successful fisherman can earn enough to support his family all year. But that means braving freezing waters, enormous waves, and bone-chilling temperatures while battling Mother Nature — and other boats — to haul the best catch in the least amount of time.

Viewers will get a kick out of watching the fishermen — many are father/son teams — navigate the rough seas in search of the crabs. The majority of the men have an intense work ethic and are very dedicated to their craft, a lesson kids can learn from. In their downtime, they horse around on deck, which is sure to draw laughs. Yet there are dramatic moments as well. In one episode, a seaman, fed up with the difficult days spent aboard ship, threatened to jump overboard; meanwhile, one of his colleagues, in an attempt to relieve his stress, flew through the air on a rope and injured himself as he crashed against the side of the boat.

Families who enjoy Deadliest Catch might also want to check out Miracle Workers.

Deadliest Catch is an educational tv series that can cater to all audiences and is really breathtaking to watch. I can’t wait for this new season!
