Phil Harris from Deadliest Catch is ALIVE AND WELL…
Just a quick post, because it looks like there’s a rumor going around that Phil Harris from the Cornelia Marie has passed away… there’s even been a thread on our forums about it. All indications are that this is just a rumor and nothing more. Bonnie from www.CorneliaMarie.com assures us that there’s no truth to this rumor and that Phil Harris is indeed alive and well, though still taking it easy and recuperating from his health problems.
Our best wishes go out to Phil, his sons and the crew of the Cornelia Marie!

I love these guys! Phil, hope you’re doing well and you’ll be back w/us next season.
I want to know what their favorite fish and fish dish is…Phil? Sig?Jonathan? Phil’s engineer? I think I’m leaving someone out…
July 23rd, 2008 at 3:18 am
Phil is definately doing well and enjoying life…saw him crusing around in his Harley in Washington then a couple days later saw him at the Harley store…he is the nicest man! nothing but best wishes!!!
July 23rd, 2008 at 3:34 am
I’m glad to hear the Phil is doing well. Does anyone know if his health problems have been resolved and will he be able to continue as a crab fisherman? Hope to hear soon!
July 23rd, 2008 at 5:35 am
I truly hope Phil gets better soon. The Cornelia Marie just wouldnt be the same without him. I myself know what its like to give myself the shots of Lovenox. It is painful as hell trust me! Good luck Phil and get better asap
July 23rd, 2008 at 6:08 am
Good Luck to you and your family Phil! Wishing you the best! I had to do the Lovenox shots when I was laid up with a broken pelvis for six weeks after crashing my Harley, and it was NOT fun! You have to do what you have to do, and all the best again to all of You! Go Crab fishing boys!….
A true fan.

Phil is the greatest. Hope that he is back next season. Wont be the same without him. Take care of yourself, Phil. We are all praying for you. God gave you another chance. Live life to its fullest!
July 23rd, 2008 at 12:43 pm
I can’t help but notice how both Josh and Jake smoke, and hope that they take a hard look at their dad. Josh made a comment on a recent episode about how his dad smokes so much and drinks Red Bull all of the time, rarely ever eating. I hate that Phil is going through a rough time. It would be great if he could ease up on some of the bad habits that may be making his condition worse. Not to say any of those things was the cause, but I doubt that they are helping. I can’t imagine being on one of those massive boats for months at a time in the angry sea and not picking up somewhat bad habits, especailly being a captain. The crew seems to stay busy catching crab so I guess most of them don’t have as much time to get very bored.
I love the show and wish all of the crews the best of luck and pray that they have safe journeys while at sea entertaining the world on “Deadliest Catch”. Those men have to be strong both physcially and mentally to be able to withstand the conditions on the Bering Sea. It makes me queasy just watching sometimes!
But….. you don’t like it, get off!!! or Shut up and Fish!
July 23rd, 2008 at 12:48 pm
Not saying that the captains don’t have a tough job, I know sure they do. I guess what I meant to say is that their hands are on the wheel of the boat alot of the time and their eyes on their instrument panels and GPS devices, so it may be a little easier to fiddle with things than when being on deck slinging a hook! I have mad respect for all of the crew members, starting with the captains. They have to keep those guys safe!
Get better Phil. We miss you on the Cornelia Marie!
July 23rd, 2008 at 1:18 pm
I hope Phil will be back next season, he is the mainstay for the whole show. I want to thank the Discovery Channel for the excellent filming and the portrayal of this family of men (and some woman) who risk they’re lives for a living. There is no better feeling on earth than to be out on the ocean, it ’s a very humbling experience and I never get tired of it. Get Well Phil! God Bless
July 23rd, 2008 at 2:15 pm
Here is wishing Phil all the best and to get well. I know its hard to sit back and let your body heal, but it has to be done! Take it easy and let your son’s show you all the knowledge you have instilled in them! Sit back and watch them make your proud!
July 23rd, 2008 at 3:54 pm
Phil, we miss you. I hope you’re back next season, as it just won’t be the same without you. You’re my very favorite “Deadliest Catch” guy and I can’t help but be worried about you. Take care of yourself and get back to fishin.
July 23rd, 2008 at 4:02 pm
I worry about Captain Phil and I don’t even know the guy. I began watching this show in season 3, I think it was, and have been glued to the TV with every marathon of Deadliest Catch runs since. It is very unusual for something on TV to catch and hold my interest, and even tap into my emotions. But I really LIKE these guys, and Captain Phil is one of my favorites. I do hope he recovers his health and that people are looking out for him. His sons seem deeply connected to him. This kind of life event isn’t something that even a “tough guy” can get past alone. Best of Wishes, Capt. Phil!

Captain Phil,….Please rest & get well soon..Sit back..& let your sons & crew do you proud……They learned from you…they know their stuff………I live on the South Shore in Nova Scotia .. ..I love watching the Deadliest Catch…it is a show that once it is on…you can’t take your eyes off the TV, I don’t know how you guys..are able to do the great job that you do…under the weather conditions you face out there….God Bless You All..!!!..

capt. phill I have a whole lot of respect for you,and what you do.Ihave been watching you very closely since the begining of the show and very concerned about your health.this has been since season one! I keep saying phill just dosen’t look right and I am worried about him his color is off his lips are blue and I don’t think he’s gonna make it. Then this season it hit if you have high blood pressure and might have a heart attact of embelism you should take plain old asprin, not ibruprofen because of the blood thinning property’s of asprin. It’s a real life saver. I was shocked to first see your older son start smoking and then the younger one. It was so sad that you didn’t step in and try not to make the same mistakes you did.they adore you and wan’t to be just like you .But don’t let them go down the same path. Phill you have to take better care of your self.I saw the shoy of you taking the luvox and in the shot was a full ash tray. Just think about what that means. Set an example for your boys and stop smoking and get them to help you best of luck to you and your boys mary

July 24th, 2008 at 7:35 am
You will be in my prayers Phil & sons! I love the show. I watch “Deadlest Catch” every night that is is on. I get so frightenend watching the show because of the danger you guys face everyday you are out there! Keep up the great work and be safe! We love you……
July 24th, 2008 at 1:57 pm
I am not much of a TV watcher especially reality TV. But for some odd reason I am so hooked on this show. Not only do I watch it every time it is on, I also DVR it and if it is not on regular TV, I watch the recordings. I have nothing but the up most respect for these guys. I use to complain about the price of crab legs (my favorite dinner), but after seeing what these brave guys go through to catch crab for me and others to eat, I will never complain again and will be happy to pay it.
I’ve been to Alaska twice and loved it. Hope to go again and if I do would love to buy all the guys a beer. Keep fishing. Prayers are always with the guys and especially Phil!
July 24th, 2008 at 5:26 pm
Love this team! phil, hope you feel better! I’m your number one fan here in Lincoln,Nebraska! My step-dad is a fisherman too in Philippines!I bought 2 fishing boats for him.Love the show!
July 24th, 2008 at 7:19 pm
Phill, you are awsome!!!!! I hope to meet you and the guys some day. If you are ever in town (Walla Walla, WA), stop by our shop and I’ll buy you a beer!!!
Take care,

July 24th, 2008 at 10:46 pm
Captain Phil, Gel better soon. We were sad to see that you were having health issues. My husband said we should send you a card, so when I saw that we could send a comment I logged on. We love Deadliest Catch. You and your crew are some of our favorites. Take care of your self and do what it takes to get better. Our prayers are with you guys.
July 25th, 2008 at 12:33 am
I love Phil, but I couldn’t help notice that he lives in a trailer park. Don’t you think someone taking that much risk should be making more money?
July 25th, 2008 at 12:52 am
Dear Phil and Sons , I love the show and won’t ever complain again about how messy it is to get the meat out of those huge crab legs. I wish you all the best hang in there and be well.
July 25th, 2008 at 2:20 am
May God Bless each and every one of you that are on those fishing boats.I myself could not be on there, talk about sick, my stomach would never settle. All of you are so strong.
I hope that Phil will be back on the Cornelia Marie next season. He seem s like a really
nice person. I was so sad when he became ill. I felt just like he was a part of my family. I prayed that he would recovery real soon.
Take care of yourself Phil, I miss you and wish you well. Take care of yourself, I am a true fan of the deadliest catch.
God Bless All of You

Capt. Phil,
Get well soon. Please do whatever the doctors tell you, please. If not for yourself, but for your boys. I have lost both my parents and I would hate for Josh and Jake to loose you so soon.
Love,
Lynn from Escondido, CA
July 25th, 2008 at 4:42 pm
Good job on raising your sons. They sure have stepped up to the plate. Very proud of them. You mentioned on AFTER THE CATCH that there is a new lady in your life. I wonder if she is in the health profession. Good luck with your new lady and continue getting healthier.
July 25th, 2008 at 7:09 pm
What would we do without Deadliest Catch? I have been hooked since day 1 and we watch the marathon weekends and every night on Discovery. My whole family loves to watch it, neighbors talk about it and even my co-workers get in on it every Wednesday at work. We love the CATCH! Its funny how a reality show like this can catch your attention and you start to relate to the people on the show. We love all the boats, Sig, Phil, the Hilstrand family, Andy and his horses etc. You guys work your butts off and work a very dangerous job. I hope all their wifes appreciate them, its hard to have them gone for months at a time but think about the time off they do have for months to spend with the family and the great money they make, be proud of your men ladies, and kids be proud of your dad’s they do something ALOT of us wouldnt dare do.
Get well Phil, take it easy and stay healthy for you and your boys and the new lady in your life! Sig Ive read you may not do Deadliest Catch next season… PLEASE dont stop Deadliest Catch - tell your crew to * shut up and fish * and not worry about the camera crew!!! CATCH wouldnt be the same without the Northwestern!
I grew up in the Ballard area watching the boats go in and out ………………..Thanks for giving us the opportunity to see what your lives are all about. Make Seattle proud!
July 25th, 2008 at 8:05 pm
We love you, Phil! Feel better soon! Hope to see you next season!

love, kim
July 26th, 2008 at 4:33 pm
Hey Pablo
My wife said the same thing….wondering why Phil lives in a trailer park…..lol
Phil has a huge house in Seattle……a driveway full of sweet rides and lots of money. I assume the trailer is a getaway but I’m not sure. I read an interview with him recently and they mentioned the big house. I think it was 5000 sq ft but don’t quote me on that!
July 26th, 2008 at 7:10 pm
We love the show and were glad Phil is ok. I hope the rest of the guys will take warning. THIS COULD HAPPEN TO YOU. You might not be so lucky. Hope to see you back Phil.
July 26th, 2008 at 7:37 pm
Captain Phil and company,
I absolutely adore all you guys! I’m so glad you are doing better. What a scary time for everyone. God Bless and please come back Phil. You have to, it’s in your blood.
July 26th, 2008 at 9:09 pm
To Phil, I hope that you are doing well and that you are able to return to the job you love so much and grown up doing. I really love to watch you run your boat and to see the respect that your crew has for you. May God Bless you and everyone who works so hard on your crew.
July 27th, 2008 at 1:05 pm

I just saw Phill last night in Lake Stevens - He is very much alive - Unlike the lame rumors that he has passed… I dont watch the show, however my husband does. So, when Josh and his girlfriend came and hungout with us last night we were beside ourselves. I just wanted to say that they are the most down to earth people i have ever met. And thank you for helping celebrate my dad’s birthday. You guys kinda snuck out while the crowd was gone and i hope you read this cause it was really a memorable night for my dad and husband.. thanks again and remember that you always have friends in Lake Stevens.. email me…. kyleigh11@gmail.com
You are the greatest..

Ok, so now that the show has ended, and the guys have had a few months of rest. I really would like to know whats going to happen this next month, when the fishing starts all over. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your boys. We love you and never miss an episode. Please take care of yourself. You are so loved by so many of us, the show would not be the same without you.
July 31st, 2008 at 2:12 pm
Dear Phil,
Am glad that your doing better. Am hoping to see you on the show next season in some way. I think all you Captains are great, but the show wouldn’t be the same without you. Your boys love you very much and I think you taught them well,so if you can’t make it back to the boat Josh and Jake will do you proud. All the
Captains and crews have become like family in our house, so when you became ill it was like one of our own
becoming ill. Do take care Phil and am glad you’ve found someone to share your life with.
Lynn
P.S. LET’S SEE SOME OF THOSE BIRDHOUSES YOU BUILD!
August 1st, 2008 at 1:34 am
To the crew of the Cornelia Marie, Capt. Phil and Josh and Jake,
My prayers go out to all of you. I hope Capt. Phil is doing better. I worked on a blue crab boat with my dad for 10 years it is nowhere near the same and not at all as dangerous but I can say old salts definently put up a strong hard fight. If anyone can kick this in the rear it will be Capt. Phil. I have the utmost respect for all of you who put your lives on the line every season for the thrill of the catch. I also realize that the cameras do not show the raw reality of what being on a boat in an endless amount of water and land nowhere in site can really do to a person and how strong you have to be not only physically but mentally. As said by Capt. Phil “You have to be a little twisted to do this job.’” That was putting it nicely. I would love to experience being on one of your vessels although the harsh reality is I doubt someone like myself could ever do it. Thank you for one the best shows to ever hit television I have watched it from the beginning. Being in the seafood business makes it all the more interesting. We have followed the family tradition just as Jake and Josh are my brother, myself and now my 14 year old son are in the family business. I only hope my son gets out before it corrupts him too.
August 1st, 2008 at 10:40 pm

August 17th, 2008 at 2:01 pm
Hey Phil, how do you feel about all of these great people who have shown just how much they care about you during this medical set back? I always watch the show and the FV/CM is always the most interesting of all!
Your a rusty ole’ salt and we just couldn’t watch the with out you at the helm.
I can understand why you are chillin’ in the rv. You wouldn’t get any rest or peace at the house.
Hey, on the lovanox…ice the area first then inject. The ice dulls the injection and also reduces bruising.
Take care Capt….we miss you and look forward to seeing you back onboard next season!
We know you’ll be back! It’s in your blood!
Mel, Arizona
p.s. heard you found a gal that can “put up with you”…..she’s got to be pretty special to handle you!
August 22nd, 2008 at 4:22 pm
Phil, please get well….we would miss you terribly if you missed a season, and please quit smoking, it isn’t helping your situation at all. I know it’s hard….I did it, quit cold turkey 6 1/2 years ago. Yep I did gain a little weight, but I sure can breathe better. Again….please get well, you are in our prayer.
August 29th, 2008 at 4:14 pm
Phil update - I talked to Phil at the 25th anniversary of H.O.G. in Milwaukee, WI on August 28th. He seems to be doing OK and I couldn’t get a confirmation on whether he was going to be back next season.
September 2nd, 2008 at 10:44 am
I’m from the far side of the earth (Philippines) and I am a self-confessed fan of the Deadliest Catch. Been watching the show since it started and enjoying it everytime. To the captains…goodluck in everything. Deadliest Catch, where respect and perseverance resides. Simply amazing!!!
September 2nd, 2008 at 6:39 pm
Glad to hear that Captain Phil is doing better. I will turn 51 this year and it is a real surprise that this is the age when stuff breaks. Be proud of your two sons and don’t forget you have done a great job with them.
September 4th, 2008 at 8:38 pm
Just saw Captain Phil this past weekend at the 105th Anniversary Harley Davidson event in Milwaukee. He was polite and gracious and looked well. And Captain Phil if your reading this, I would like to volunteer to be the cook on your next trip. The adventure and experience would be truly once-in-a-lifetime.

All the very best to Phil from New Zealand. We hope you have a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing you back once you are well.
You’re all nuts to do what you do and must really love it in order to keep doing it. We watch the show every week and just love it.
Take care and travel safe.
