Season 4 Ordered By Discovery Channel

A couple of folks have sent in questions or posted comments asking if and when Season Four of Deadliest Catch will be airing on the Discovery Channel.  At first I heard rumors about an October 2007 return with new episodes, but now it sounds like it may be March of April 2008, according to the Daily News:

http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/tv/2007/06/18/2007-06-18_inner_tube.html

Either way, it sounds like Discovery’s made the right choice and has ordered another action-packed season from Original Productions.  If this last season is anything to go by, these guys still have lots of new tricks up their sleeve.  The deep-sea submersible camera, which apparently didn’t work out very well in season 3 because of inclement weather, may make another appearance, providing some dramatic shots of the ocean floor and crab in their natural habitat.  Or the producers and camera crew may figure out some great new way to film a shot… they already use chaser boats, gimbled-cameras on helicopters… heck, they even strap themselves onto hydraulic cranes and lay suspended 30 feet out from the boat just to get a good shot of the deck.  (My personal favorite was the CrabberCam - where they attached a small camera to a skateboard helmet and had one of the deckhands wear it while he worked… you really got a feel for the fisherman’s-eye-view of things.)

Anyway, the important thing is YES, Virginia… there will be a Season Four!  The big questions now are, which boats and captains will be featured?  Phil and Sig are shoo-ins, and it looks like the Time Bandit Brothers will probably stick around.  The Maverick will probably stay in, just so we can see Blake in his transition from deckhand to greenhorn-captain to full-fledged captain.  But what about the others?   I’m not crazy about the Farwest Leader, though I do have a soft-spot in my heart for Ragnhild… the boat I really miss though is the Rollo.  Eric was always good for a snarky comment or a subtle witticism, and his crew was constantly pulling pranks for the camera.  Maybe the production guys thought they were trying too hard to make “good television”?  Who knows.  But of all the captains I always liked Eric, just as much as Sig or Phil, if only because he seemed like he was cut from a different cloth… a little cleaner and more refined, younger and with a more laid back management style.  He provided a nice contrast with the other salty-dog captains.

I also think Nortwestern, Cornelia Marie, and the Time Bandit will be back again. I don’t think the Maverick will be back because of what written on the Evening Star about what took place with Phil. Blake has stated that he done with Deadliest Catch and I don’t think Rick won’t stop Blake from taking the Captain Chair again for another King Crab season just so he could have his boat featured.

I hope that this year was the last year for Farwest Leader, the only thing that they had going for them was John Mavar and Ragnhild, I couldn’t stand Chilly. I hope that the Wizard will be back, because they didn’t show alot of them and I like Keith style, he didn’t yell nor belittle his crew. I also, like a good majority of the fans, want the Rollo back again.

  2. Anonymous Says:

did I miss an episode? I never heard if Blake ever came across the rotting fish that one of the Hansen’s put in there before blake’s first trip as captain.

  3. Meghan Hause Says:

Yes, Blake said that he did, but according to Jeff Conory, they missed the shot.

I was wondering if anybody knows where the Northwestern is docked? I know it’s in Seattle, but not what harbor. Also when are they there? We live in Illinois and are going to Seattle in 08′, and since most of the guys at work are huge fans, I would LOVE to be the only one to actually see & maybe take a picture of the Northwestern. Any help would be greatly appreciated. And as far as season four, the sooner the better!!!

  5. matty Says:

how can you guys not like the farwest leader ok it isent as exciting as most of the other boats but its only thier first season and frankly blake painter isent much better just give em a chance

  6. Laurie Says:

The Farwest Leader was just as good as the Rollo–you just had to love Chilly (what a whiny pain in the ass). Me personally am and always will be a Time Bandit fan

  7. sheldon st.anthony newfoundland,canada Says:

hopefully the crabbers give the calapsibile crap pot will be tested this season… with success to save boats. the design will allow the boats to bebalanced better without crab pots NOT extending out past the rails…. good luck guys.

  10. Shirl Boddie Says:

Yup, a 65 year old woman loves the Deadliest Catch, and I’m thrilled there will be another season. I have a coffee mug with a picture of Sig standing in front of the Northwestern (as does our minister). Congrats to Discovery Channel for starting this show — hope they continue for many new seasons.

I Love Dealiest catch……Very interesting and entertaining at the same time. You can’t say that about alot of what’s on the tube these days. Besides, Blake I wouldn’t kick out of bed and edgar is by far the funniest charactor i’ve ever seen.

  14. Linda Says:

Love the whole series! Can’t wait for Season 4. Northwestern is my favorite but Cornelia Marie runs a close second place for me. I enjoy watching the family members working together. I agree that Chilly is a pain in the butt, however it does make for interesting watching

  15. nichol Says:

    love the Northwestern

  16. Peggy Says:

Just watched a marathon of Dealiest Catch. Now I miss it even more, especially the Northwestern and Cornelia Marie. Can hardly wait for Season 4. Please show us more reruns. Can’t get enough.

  17. Jean Says:

I love this show. Most of all, it is the loyalty, humanity and group dynamic that really touches and entertains me. It isn’t just about the crabs and macho fishing guys. In fact most of these men are more in touch with their feelings than would be expected. The episode where the greenhorn on the Northwestern wanted to EARN a Northwestern logo jacket and kept stripping layers for every time he missed when throwing the hook totally and unexpectedly made me all mushy. That kid said something like…if I do this then it doesn’t matter what anyone else says, just the guys on the boat and the captain and he’ll know he can do anything. Sounds really dramatic but seriously…in this day and age of “reality” tv and realistic violence and all that crap…does anyone ever make an effort to just earn something and mean it. It was really nice.

I grew up fishing with my family on Long Island, NY and this show reminds me of the connection we had to it. To this day I still miss the salt air all that came with it. My family loved it so much my dad would lie and say he took me to school and instead, took me fishing from sun up to sun down. Personally, speaking as a single 31y/o woman who grew up fishing , I am would LOVE to sit down and enjoy a dinner date with Captain Andy. He is a hottie. Even if he is taken romantically, a fun night to hang out with the Time Bandit brothers would be cool. Same goes for Captain Phil, Captain Sig, Phil’s sons and Edgar.

Good luck and I can’t wait to see the new season!

  18. mattheu Says:

  19. L&B Says:

  20. Lyn Says:

After getting pleuricy and being off work for a few weeks I’ve been saved by my new obsessison. First watched 3 hours of it on the weekend and am hooked! I feel deprived I didn’t know of its existence and now I have to go back to work. Best thing on telly - should have its own channel. Love Phil and his boys and Edgar is fabulously nuts! they’re all fab! Got to keep Cornelia Marie, Northwestern, Time bandit (for breaking with superstision but doing 2 circles before leaving!), Maverick and Fairwest Leader. Blake is great and should be back. How unashamedly macho and exciting it all is! More, more more! please, please for series 4. something to look forward to whilst catching up with all those I’ve missed. Love them all but buying my Cornelia Marie T shirt and mug! Sig growing on me… And to think I would have remained in ignorance if not for pleuricy!

  21. waterdog Says:

So tired of Dirty Jobs, Mythbusters. Look for deadliest catch atleast a re-run once a day but those 2 shows seem to always be on!!!

  22. Glenn Says:

Best darn show on TV!!!!!!! Keep’em coming, right to season 10 or further.

  23. gordie Says:

Me and 92000 fans on prince edward island canada love the show and would hope that discovery channel keeps them for years to come they had a poll done here and close to 92000 people on the island said they heard or watched the show pretty impressave considering the island only has a population of 138000 my favarite boat is the time bandit went on there online store and got a really nice jacket with the boat on the back and my name on the front but i like phill and sig to and me to i miss the rollo captain eric was funny

  24. squarepeg Says:

Love the show! I’m so glad it’s coming back for a fourth season! I have to say i didn’t like season 3 as much as the others (probably because they didn’t show as much of my fabulously favourite boat as they had in the previous two, namely the Northwestern). My absolute darling is Edgar Hansen. He’s funny, a bit of an imp sometimes but just the thing the boat needs to offset Sig’s down-to-business nature. And Sig the stern captain who makes a killing every season.
Now, what i have noticed in season 3 is the rising popularity of the Cornelia Marie gang. They’re playing the family card, like the Hansens, and it’s working. Like many others, it got me following the father-sons interaction, surprised to see a softer side to the usually irritable Phil. It’s obvious how proud he is of Josh and Jake - the latter especially knows how to get on his father’s good side. I’m starting to like the foul-mouthed captain of the CM.
What I do miss is the Maverick, but not with Blake at the helm. I liked the roundish Rick Quashnick - Donna and all. So I’m vainly hoping, he might make a a comeback.
All in all, topnotch show! Can’t wait till they return on Discovery! Until then, long live reruns!
    And yeah Captain Andy! Mrrrrr

  25. Larry Says:

Hey Leo I beleive The NW is docked in Ballard, which is part of Seattle, One of the Hansens lives not to far from me I’ll verify it for you.

  26. Iniquity Says:

  27. Leo Says:

Hey Larry, you’re AWESOME! We really appreciate all your help! My son said thank you too. We’re going to Seattle in the end of July and can’t wait. Thanks again, I knew the people of Seattle were GREAT!! Go NW!!

Season four should be both entertaining and exciting to watch. I am very much looking forward to seeing the new story lines. Heck, I love the entire series! Love the whole series! I also loved the Northwestern series. The concept was well thought out. What a pleasure.

  30. Susan Says:

Can’t wait for season 4 on Tuesday night. Always heard about the toils of crab fishing from family in the Seattle area and now can see it and root for the safe return of all crews.

Love watching how the different captains motivate (or demotivate) the crews and how mentally strong the groups need to be in those elements. Good leadership skills can be learned watching this. Blue skies to the crews this season!

  31. Joey Says:

The Northwestern is by the far the best boat on Deadliest Catch! Followed by The Cornilea Marie. Ive nothcied that the Wizard captain is kind of a jerk to his crew and others in Season 4… anyone agree?

  32. Tasha Dodo Bird Says:

I feel the rollo on the previous show was unfair to his crew he made them work really hard to far south and waist alot of valuable time. They pulled those heavy pods and had to throw all the wrong crab back because he likes to fish by himself. Then he took part of their money because they or (HIM) the captain miscounted unfair and stupid. He’s lucky they didn’t beat him down. NO NO NO TO ROLLO

  33. surf66 Says:

This is one phenominal show. I havent seen anything on TV better in ten years.

  34. J. matthews Says:

Keep the Northwestern and the cornelia Marie. Time bandit and wizard. Way to go guys!
When the Northwestern bow comes up out of the water it does something to me…like de-je-vue. It gives me a lump in my throat and my heart pounds. What a beautiful paint job. Love the boats with families.

  35. jammy Says:

    bitch

  36. carol Says:

We were at the docks in Ballard yesterday (July 9) and the Northwestern was nowhere to be seen. No one seemed to know where she is right now.

  37. Dave.B Says:

Deadlist Catch its an Awsome show i also own the 360 game the game well isnt what i thought it would be got boreing real quick…The Time Bandit rocks…NorthWestern is a very close 2nd..Capton Kieth is a goof how did a a&*H#$% become a capton if i was working on that boat id have thrown kieth overboard the first night whenever they show kieth my 5 year old son calles him the whinning baby…Hey Sig the next game you and your brothers make a game along with discovery channel couldya not scare everyone with your mug shot on the videos during the game lol the only probblem is the writeing is to small whenever something comes out Anyways guys been a blast except for kieth then it was a bore… May God Bless Your Crab And Fill Your Pots And Bring You All Home Safe…Except for kieths boat may his pots be filled with star fish…. 38. Rocky Says:

i am looking for POD design specifications and its works any one knows where to find out

  39. Kendra Says:

This is by far the best show that has been on in many years. I love all of the Captains and crews. Sig and the Northwestern boys are some fishin fools for sure, he can find the crab where ever it is. Phil and the boys, well they are just an awsome, tough bunch. I hope Phil gets past this health scare., Last but not least, Johnathan and the Time Bandit boys…..They are by far my favorites. Even when things are going now so great Johnathan is laughing about it. He seems to be just a great man, a hell of a Captain, and oh yes he is one incredibly hot hunk… Yummy. Thats the stuff dreams are made of. Anyways
Great job with the show, best of luck on the next crab season, and please please keep the show coming. It is a brite spot in a see of dummed down reality shows.

  40. Dee Says:

I have been watching the show and now know why crab is so high. Those guys really earn their money and I woouldn’t do it for any money. It is one of the best realality shows on air and really shows us what the guys go through daily. I know it isn’t always so stormy but it is enough to make the job dangerous. I comment all of them for the hard work and long days that they put in. Hope it stays on for many seasons.
